The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) is one the most important trade associations in America and the world. Its main motive is to promote American art and culture using fashion as a tool. Thus the purpose behind its foundation has turned out to be successful venture as it has achieved its goal handsomely.

Since 1962, when it was founded, it has remained one of leading fashion associations committed to the cause of bringing excellency in fashion arts. It has been successful enough to enhance the aesthetic and artistic quotient in the field of fashion design and accessories.

By nature, it is a non-profit trade association. Basically, its main task is to provide right direction to all the aspiring, talented and enthusiastic fashion designers who have the potential to emerge on the horizon of fashion.

For the better implementation of its strategies and to gain the maximum benefits of its mission, the CFDA starts functioning from the very basic level. It provides help and support, by all means, to not only the students of universities but it uses its resources in the high schools too.

The membership of Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) counts more than 300. All of them are leading and famous fashion and accessory designers of America. Most of them were noticed in their aspiring age, thus picked up by the association for their better grooming.

The fashion association has developed a very strong tie-up with Vogue. Apart from working together on fashion front, they raise funds to fight HIV and AIDS. Also the association works for the cause of breast cancer under the banner of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. The CFDA’s members take active parts in such human-friendly works.

Moreover, the fashion association gives an annual award to recognize the impressive works done by a fashion designer in the field of fashion. The annual CFDA Fashion Awards are given under various categories such as menswear, womenswear and accessories. Also, the association promotes fashion journalism. Thus it gives awards in the fields of journalism also.

There is an enormous buzz around our nation, and even perhaps around the world, about what Michelle Obama will wear to the inauguration today.  It’s an amazing piece of a historic event – the role that FASHION will play – and rightfully so.  The endless newsreels playing for the last few weeks have been looking back at past first ladies and the styles and colors of their inaugural ensembles.  And, of course, in this case, there are two little girls to “ooh and ahh” over as well.  What a day to be a dress maker!

By now, if you were up early, you saw Michelle Obama leave her (very) temporary residence in a golden yellow brocade dress with a matching long jacket and long silk scarf – smiling and waving to news crews as she entered St. John’s Church in Washington DC with her husband – the 44th president of our country.  It felt like every news channel you turned to did a critique of her outfit – how it seemed to match the color of the church – that it was a “happy” color and embraced Mrs. Obama’s joie de vivre when it comes to fashion.  That it was classic, and yet still her own.  (Who can forget the amount of commentary about her daring black and red ensemble on the night of the election?)

I, for one, love the acknowledgement that the media is giving to fashion today.  For those of us in the clothing industry – from fabric designers, to boutique owners, to seamstresses and tailors and factory workers – well, this is a really great day for us.  We are center stage all day today – and we know it!

But truthfully, we know something that everyone else might NOT know.  We are center stage EVERY day – and it’s not just for the big occasions.  (Okay, we don’t all have an inaugural ball to go to, but we all have those once-in-a-lifetime events – like weddings and proms – where we have that “perfect” dress that gets a million photographs.)  Rather, it’s the smaller occasions where WE know that we literally make or break people.  It’s the first date with the best looking guy in the office.  (And it’s the dinner where you meet his parents.)  It’s every single day that you go to work.  What we do matters.  It really matters.  We are literally the thread that ties us all together, from generation to generation.

Clothing isn’t just something to buy, wear, and toss away.  Be sure to save those special pieces to hand down to your daughters and nieces.  Fashion has a way of coming around again and again (can you say skinny jeans?).   And what doesn’t come around becomes great stuff for school plays and Halloweens (poodle skirts and white leisure suits, anybody?).  For plus size women, there’s also the tremendous honor of having some great fashion in the right size when the young women in your life are struggling – both financially and with their identities.  Even plus size women like Oprah Winfrey have shared that finding the right dress in her size has driven her to tears on the MOST special occasions, like the Emmy’s.

You will be more than the hero when you have that gorgeous plus size little black dress for someone’s special New Year’s Eve – or a beautiful plus size blouse to accent a great suit for that big interview.  As plus size women, we KNOW how important it is to dress to impress and dress for success!  Having those special wardrobe pieces to pass down is pretty wonderful.

I have visions of Michelle Obama’s daughters, one day in the far future, unwrapping beautiful dresses from some treasured garment bag wrapped carefully in tissue paper, and saying to their own daughters, “This is the dress your grandmother wore to meet the King of England, and this is what she wore when she met the President of France.”  Our clothing is far more than what it seems; it’s part of our life story.  So the next time you have a great dress that you adore, take a picture of yourself in it at the occasion and then, when you save that dress and wrap it carefully in tissue, throw the picture in the box too.  We aren’t all “The First Lady” but we ARE all part of a very intimate history to be treasured as part of our own legacy.

Elle is a magazine that stays on the leading edge of fashion, beauty, and lifestyle trends. This women’s magazine is published in 32 countries by Hachette Filipacchi Magazines (a French Company).Elle Magazine has become the world’s leading fashion magazine for every woman in today’s society. This magazine features fashion and beauty trends, lifestyles and personalities. Elle addresses new styles and runway trends in today’s fashion and beauty world. Elle also includes controversial issues in contemporary society to inform their subscribers of emerging talent across all areas of popular culture.Elle magazine features runway shows and great articles for readers with sophistication. Elle brings the superstar look to the average lady and allows you to find your most beautiful self at any age.The first New Fashion and style magazine. Ablaze with bold color, fresh looks, new ideas.

Its what style setting women prefer to read. For a fashion magazine Elle is definitely one of the ones that includes a few real articles here and there, vs. your typical mindless fashion mag. Also, the fashion shots are artistic and creative.I would recommend Elle over many other fashion magazines. It’s tasteful and doesn’t contain crude sexual insight, but is entertaining and semi-factual. Article subjects differ and are constantly of interest.Elle has a memorable article in every other issue including interesting fashion and beauty tips.

Elle is for affluent successful young women desiring couture fashion, beauty and fitness advice. Editorials are well written and entertaining.Elle provides what you expect from a fashion magazine – and more – catering to the fashionable, smart, sophisticated, woman interested in more than just fashion.Elle unlike other magazines, does a great job at keeping things simple. It boasts only four sections – On The Cover, Fashion,  Features and Beauty and Fitness. A big thumbs up from me on this aspect. I hate it when a magazine creates 12 categories for things that can be lumped into a couple. If you’re a female between the ages of 16 and 40, then the advertisements might be of interest to you. Products include make-up (Clinique, Estee Lauder, L’Oreal, Maybelline); clothing (Ann Taylor, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger); jewelry (Swatch, Piaget, Fendi); and perfume (Giorgio Armani, Dior). Nothing original – I’m sure the same ads are appearing in all of the other fashion magazines.Discover everything you need to find the look you love. From cutting-edge runway trends to stylish steals and must-have accessories, ELLE Magazine helps you create your kind of chic.

Every issue is full of expert tips and secrets on hair, skin, make-up, health and fitness to keep you glowing. Elle sits somewhere between Vogue, Allure, and Marie Claire, without Vogue’s coldness or narcissistic qualities, and Allure’s sometimes vapid and repetitive articles about make-up trends, and with articles that are a bit more intelligent at times than Marie Claire’s. I like the fact that Elle also features an “Eco” or “Green” issue that supports and gives recognition to organic cosmetics, etc.To conclude my article i would have to say, is this brain surgery? No. Is this the best magazine ever published? No. But if you like female, fashion magazines that are thick on advertisements and have an article or two that appeal to you, pick Elle up, you won’t be disappointed.

Flooring is an important fashion accessory for any well dressed home. If you want your room to look stylish then you have to get the floor just right. As with all fashion related products, many of us are looking for something that little bit different to help them stand out from the crowd.

The earliest known flooring is the humble rug, indeed an example still exist which dates from 8,000 BC. Today the beauty of rugs has been rediscovered. Whether traditional hand made wool rugs, hand knotted, hand tufted, lavish leather, natural fibre or modern machine variety, a rug will set off any interior. A rug can transform any room in the home; can be moved easily and for a very affordable price.

With so many stylish and innovative ranges, rugs are the must have fashion accessory for floors. The growing interest in wood, laminate and tile effect flooring is creating a new demand for rug collections to compliment your existing flooring and be as versatile as your mood change.

Rugs can be very inviting in a hallway and are a great way to add warmth to your home.

Exposed floorboards and high ceilings look great in the summer but can sometimes leave your home nippy in the winter months, so adding a cosy rug creates a snug, warm feel to your home, adding a fantastic finishing touch.

With so many contemporary and cool designs it’s not surprising that well-known fashion and interior designers have put their name to a wide selection of designer endorsed rugs. Indeed many flooring retailers have in-store rug designers.

Right now the choice of flooring has never been better and with the use of fantastic natural products such as sisal, coir, jute and flax fine quality hand made rugs are an excellent choice for those keen on using natural fibres without compromising on good looks. Natural sheepskins are the very latest in interior décor statements and do not pollute the environment in their production process.

Whether you want to create a natural look for your room or make a bold statement, homeowners have never been more adventurous in their use of flooring. If you want something truly unique, beautiful mosaic rugs offer something totally magical in ivory whites, creams and rich chocolates available in a range of sizes.
